kubeh

Status: Completed, 2017

Location: West Village, New York

Area: 1600 square feet

Scope: Interior design, Custom furniture design

Kubeh is a modern New York interpretation of a traditional comfort food from the Levant. The interiors draw inspiration from sources such as the Great Mosques of Aleppo and Damascus as well as modern Israeli workers’ cafes where this dish is popular today. The space features a mix of vintage and new light fixtures, American-made furniture, and decor from the client’s own collection of antiques from the region. A large hand-made communal table anchors the dining room, with blue slatted banquettes and a round booth flanking the communal dining area. Handmade tiles are featured throughout, including glazed ceramic in different tones of aquamarine and encaustic cement tiles in modern and traditional geometric patterns.
