Somos is a Pan-Latin restaurant and event space owned by Chef Juan Placencia. The concept of Somos (“together” in Spanish) is to be a welcoming and inclusive space for the Latinx and greater community in Northern New Jersey. In this spirit MGC designed an open and flexible floor plan based around different aspects of an urban plan typical of cities of Central and South America. La Plaza, La taberna, and El mercado serve as conceptual foundations to each of the main spaces. MGC developed custom hand-woven shades and designed woven architectural screens as a nod to the crafts of Peru where Placencia’s family is from. Light, colorful finishes are incorporated throughout to reflect the celebratory and welcoming nature of this space.
